The main reason for heading over was to join them for the night shoot. Which for a change was done at Beeches Rd bridge instead of the station. With 70013 renamed and numbered at the weekend to 70048, Russ took the chance to have a charter with it. It was a superb trip. The locos put in some great performances during the day, on the return leg after a stop at Leamington to let two services pass, the locos put in a stunning attack on Hatton bank. A plus for the day was to see 5322 outside in the sun whilst at Didcot. This took place on the Thursday 30th. A light engine run in the morning and this loaded run in the late afternoon. She ran without fault and pasted in flying colours. 5043 is seen drifting into Stratford with 47773 & four coaches in tow. After what must be the quickest Stratford turn round in history, 5043 is seen climbing out of Stratford up Wilmcote bank.

The Castle had come a long way since this photo I took in 1998. Sunday morning with the fire lit once more we were back to getting her ready for her big moment. After being turned, Driver Alastair Meanley & Firemen Dave Fisher are ready to unveil the Castle to the awaiting people. The first view they got was her coming passed the shed and into view... ...and pulls up in front of the awaiting crowd. After a morning of rain, rain and more rain, the sun came out and lit up the paint on Edgcumbe. ...a real credit to the Tyseley team!! Photo call before returning her to the shed.

Graham putting the finish to the stunning paint job. Friday we were all busy cleaning, painting and fitting parts on the loco all day to get her ready. Alastair Meanley lights the first fire in a complete 5043 in 45years. Fire in her belly once more. After cleaning... After a few hours the Castle starts to rise steam. Later that evening she was going to make the first movements under her own steam. Saturday after another long day putting the final parts on the loco, the Castle again after simmering all day is ready to take her second movements under her own steam. Just moments before Alastair opened her up. On a break between taking many trips up and down the yard, the Castle stands in the platform road at Tyseley in the very late hours. It was great to hear the beat of a double chimney Castle again.

The loco was at the line for their 25years in service gala weekend. So today we had some fun with the loco on two Maroon coaches, then a superb freight that the group had put together. The day was ended with a lovely night shoot. The 56xx ready did look great on the freight. Monday 15 September 2008: Simon Hopkins ran a superb charter at the P&B Railway with 5619. Today the vac cylinder was mounted under the cab floor. Also other little jobs like many spit pins were put in place. It was good to see more progress on the boiler. The slots in the back head had now been fully welded up. Another job done on the boiler. Ed's pipework. Pete.T's lubrication is coming along nicely. Another shot of the lubrication pipes. Nearing the end of it now lads...! 4079 Pendennis Castle tender now nearly complete once again. Earlier in the day the freight mob had put the other tank, now finished, bank on the frames of 7202. 2999 on a rare trip out in the yard. 3650 getting some attention in the yard.

During the week I had been and picked up the OTMR systems ready for 6023 to run on the mainline, So we have now got all of the parts ready to fit on the locomotive. These work is now being carried out by Bruce, Dennis & Derek. Other work was today was more pipework, cylinder cladding and the all important tea drinking!!! It was good to see newly restored 3650 at work on the branch line during the day. Saturday 23 August 2008: Today was a good day with the King. On arrival 3822 & 3650 were simmering outside the shed, here you can just see 3738 inside the shed. 3650 gathering steam on shed at 08.00. Fire Fly sat in the transfer shed. 3650 working the Auto service alongside Fire Fly. 7ft and 4ft 8''1/2 gauge railways both in action next to each other at Didcot. After a day duty on the branch, Kevin and Andy turned the loco so she was facing the other way for Sundays duty. A busy shed scene at the end of the day. 1363, 6697, 3822 & 3650. Back on shed at the end of the day.

It was a nice sunny day, the train seemed busy and well supported. Thanks to Bob and crew for the trip. After the morning out we thought we'd go lineside and photo the afternoon run just outside of Stratford. One of those jobs that just hadn't been done... Since the bogie went back under the loco in 1992, we just hadn't got round to finishing the underside paint work. Finishing touches like getting all the angles of the pipes the same, makes all the difference to the end result. I took a few shots of the lubrication pipework. You can see why Pete.T & Tony have working hard on getting it done each weekend. It is a complex layout, and bending the pipes in the correct order is very important. Bogie underside now getting some attention. A view of the cladding on the inside cylinders. Also the view from underneath the inside cylinders. The next job is to do the drain cock pipes. Pete.G and Alex have been very busy this week... around 400 stays have been put in on one side of the Kings boiler! A general view with most of one side in. The frames now painted ready for when the cover is finished and is bolted on. Today the steam crane was in operation. Moving the large 50ton steam cranes boiler ready for it to be tested. The Great Western style inside cylinder cover, now glossed and stored ready for the day when 6023 is turned out in 1948 GW green.

Today with a smaller working group than of late we all had pletty to get on with. The main was more on the hoses that connect the loco and tender. We only have the exhaust injector water feed one to do. But as Nick & Ian found it was putting up a little fight, and adjustments were needed to the surrounding pipes. More layers of paint were also being applied to the cladding sheets, and the other thing was for Richard and I to make final adjustments to the GW style inside cylinder cover so it is ready to use when the loco is in Great Western livery. With that done it is now time to fit the BR style cover which the loco will be finished with. Last but by no means least Pete.T & Tony were doing more lubrication pipework. 3650 finished in the Stephenson Clark livery that she ended her days in. 3650 in the workshops before being lauched to the public a couple of weeks ago. Great stuff! Over the last couple of months I haven't put any photos of 3650 on my site. This was due to the wishes of the 3650 group. They wanted to be the first to put the photos of her to the public, and rightly so. Well done to the group for getting her finished. She was passed for running on the Wednesday. Mainly diesels in these collection, it's rare for me to take photos of them today. But it was nice to walk round and think back to when I saw a lot of them running in the mid 90's. A lovely Morris Minor van that has been restored in the British Railways colours. 46115 looking towards the coaling towers at Carnforth. ex EPS 37/6, 37602 now turned out in full DRS colours. Also DRS 37229, 47802 & 66429 were on display. Two of DRS 20's still going strong. 20302 & 20307. 37685 still in the old intercity colours. Nice to see the massive Class 40 & 55 Deltic here. One of the ex Royal 47s, 47798 was also on site.

She was joined by 70013, 5690 & 48151. Just before it got dark though we were all in for a soaking as rain and lighting passed over, but it was well worth getting wet. As after dark the Scot really did look superb. 46115 & 70013, the Brit having arrived from the GCR earlier in the day. Now with 1T57 headboard attached the Brit a waits it's mainline return. Which it looks will be at the head of the 1T57 re-run. Some old friends rotting away whilst in store at Carnforth. A fitting headboard for the Scot! Looking Stunning 46115 stands on shed. A study of the Scot. I think the BR green was the right livery. The Brit and Scot before headboards were attached. Harry Potters Hall was also on show. It'll be nice to see her return to BR green once they have finished the films.

There were a couple of adjustments needed which were all carried out, with help from Barry, but we left at the end of the day very happy after getting all but one finished. Also whilst we were on site a couple of other little jobs were ticked off the list. During the week more work has been carried out on the boiler. 3738 stands outside the shed on a lovely summers morning. 1338 with the sun just catching 3650 inside the shed. 1363 was also outside on show. I realy do think the BR livery look great. 1363 again. A view that could almost be back in the 50's... Another shot of 3738 on shed. Barry helping us weld up and adjust the pipes. During last week Mr Freeman had been in to start fitting the Kings through air pipe. This is so that we can work together with other air braked locos when the time comes. I've took a couple a couple of shots from between the frames. One to follow the route of the new air pipe. But also so that you can see how much work has to go into the pipes and motion. Working in tight spaces with moving motion, the line of pipes needs to be correct. The automatic drip valve was the last piece of the injector puzzle to be fitted. Two views of the exhaust injector, in this view you can see the pipes and fittings that we have been busy making & fittings. Mike has done a fantastic job with the inside cylinder cladding. It is such a tight space to work in, and yet with lots of patience he has done a superb job. Another coat of undercoat was applied to the cab sides and splashers. A shot of the hoses connecting engine and tender. The job on the footplate that is waiting for the welder. In the week we have got a welder also working on the boiler. He's to do list includes doing some building up work one the firebox corners, welding in the slots on the back head and also a job in the cab of the loco. The first order of stays has arrived, 400 to be going on with. In the week Pete.G and Alex have put the first couple in. 6023 in the works.

Whilst the cover was off I thought I would get another shot of the inside cylinders. 3738 during the turntable demo. The superb 1363 in BR black.

A couple of shots showing the brackets that have been made and fitted for the water pipes. Another job ticked off the list. Pete.T and Tony working on teh lubrication. Starting to look nice now. In the week Pete.G has been very busy. The Four seems are all now in and finished. Plus the new plates for the back head are ready for welding in. A big sign of progress.. a bucket full of stays. Nearly all the stays that need replacing have now been removed. Also signs of Mike working on lagging the cylinders.

I was able to see the locos that had been gathered for the event. It really was great to see so many Great Western locos together. The event saw four Panniers together 7752, 7760, 9600, &9466, Three Halls 4936, 4953 & 4965 and three Castles 5029, 5043 & 7029. A study of the lovely nameplates on the Earl. The reporting number says it all. 100 years since the shed had opened. A side on view of 5043, showing just how big the double chimney on the Castles really is!! Clun Castle, Kinlet Hall and Rood Ashton Hall. 5029 and 7029 both carried the 100 reporting number for the event. It was superb to see 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe outsde on display for the public to see how well the team are doing on it's restoration. The evening sun glints on the motion of 5043. 5043 takes centre stage as she is now nearing the end of a 10 year and very detailed restoration. Something that no other railway has, not one but TWO double chimney Castles. 5043 & 7029 stand by the turntable. 9600, 9466, 7760 & 7752. Great Western line up. Four Panniers lined up for the cameras. Tyseley workhorse 4965 stands next to 9600.

Work on the TPWS & OTMR continue as well as the lubrication pipework. Mike has now nearly cracked it with the inside cylinder cladding. The boiler is ready coming along well now, Pete.G is working very well on it in the week. Other projects on site are also progressing well, more on them soon. It fell to 6024 King Edward I to pull the Royal train from Kidderminster to Brigdnorth. The weather was superb for the event and loads of people turned out along the line to see the train. Matt and I managed to get a couple of shots a long the line. 6201 was also visiting the railway as stand loco. Tuesday 10 June 2008: With Prince Charles visiting the SVR. With 6024 on the train and ready to depart, stand by loco 6201 passes by. A close up of the headboard which was carried for the day. One of the two Royal class 67s passes us at the tunnel, a head of the Royal train. 6024 burst out of Bewdley tunnel with the Royal train. After a stop at Bewdley to meet to station staff and a look round. The King is seen making her depart. 6024 climbing up Eardington Bank. After her important days duties 6024 is seen back on shed alongside 42968. Also seen on shed is 45110 & 48773. 7714 & 7802 stand in the yard at Brigdnorth. 6201. In fine afternoon sun 4566 is seen in light steam at Bewdley.

Still a very enjoyable day. 850, 34007, 7903, 5619, 3440, 5542, 92203 all in service. The first service of the Gala was 5542 with the Auto from Toddington to Cheltenham. 34007 Wadebridge departs with the morning freight. 5619 and 3440 City of Truro with their first working of the gala. 850 Lord Nelson on the morning working. The Auto drifts through the countryside. 7903 rounds Chicken Curve. 5542 departs again with the Auto. With Truro heading back tender first I thought I'd do a panning shot of her. 5619 on the freight, heads for Winchcombe. 9F 92203 as she should be, minus nameplates and dirty...!! 34007 Wadebridge exits Greet tunnel. In full sun and on a rake of chocolate and cream coaches, 3440 looks perfect as she pulls away from Winchcombe. With the sun staying out 850 drifts into Winchcombe on the demo freight. 7903 exits the tunnel, I was glad to see that the lads matched the loco with correct stock and headboard. Superb 5619, looking at home on the freight. For the last shot I went into the signalbox to watch 5619 depart.

Anyway this shot from July 2006 could become the view inside the works again in 2009... but with 6023 in steam, if the work and funds keep progressing as it is now. 3650 now almost complete, is now being painted. However first I couldn't miss the chance to see 5029 Nunney Castle depart Birmingham on her first trip out after returning to steam. After that I went to Didcot, which also had another bonus in waiting, this was in the form of 35028 Clan Line which was working the VSOE to Oxford. All this and back home for dinner..!! This is a diagram showing the layout of the Exhaust injector. This weekend it was Thomas and friends at Didcot. Ian working on the last pipe for the exhaust injector. Another shot of 3650 in the Works. Last week the buffers were fixed to 1014. Also the trademark step was also fitted. 2999 cab gets a coat of paint. After I've applied more coats of blue undercoat. ]]> Sat Apr 12 2008 Matt Fielding 7812 Charter http://philneale6023.fotopic.net/c1492249.html With the SVR reopening at easter and 7812 Erlestoke Manor returning to service, Matt Fielding ran a charter using the full length of the line. We were able to use the Cambrian Coast Express headboard for the day. The Manor looked superb at the head of the maroon rake, recreating the Cambrian perfectly. The weather was also on our side for a change, a very enjoyable day, thanks to Matt. Whilst at the Tunnel we got some lovely views of the loco at work. Whilst on the footplate from the tunnel to Kidderminster of the Manor, it was great to see the crew get the best from the loco. Crossing Victoria Bridge. Matt had got permission for us to use this farmers field, we were able to get some great shots from here. Matt had also got us permission for this shot at Severn lodge farm. Our final location was Hay Bridge. A great end to the day. Glint with a dark sky behind.

Whilst I was down the weekend before I had put a first coat of top coat on the cab side and splashers. Nice to see the tender and loco colours come after all these years. Roger from the 38mob was 30 the day before and 3822 was turned out with ROG 30Y reporting headcode. A view of the works. Great progress has been made with 3650. Also work on 6023 boiler is coming along really well with both slots now cut out, along with most of the stay drilled out.

]]> Sun Mar 30 2008 Russ Hillier's 4953 Pitchford Hall Charter http://philneale6023.fotopic.net/c1479321.html After starring in a Gala at the GCR, the chance was taken to use 4953 Pitchford Hall on a charter before she left the line. Russ Hillier ran a charter on the full length of the line using a rake of Blood and Custard coaches in the morning, and a Mixed freight for the afternoon session. We had superb weather throughout, we were rewarded for our early start with clear blue sky. Thanks to the crews for putting on a fine display with the Hall. I was able to enjoy a cracking footplate ride with them during the day. 4953 ready to depart. Well we couldn't of asked for a better morning in March. Bursting under Woodthorpe bridge. Heading down the straight towards Quorn station. 4953 drifts into Quorn station. It was time to move the locos into the new Engine House at Highley. I joined the lads with 4930 Hagley Hall on a wet morning at Kidderminster. First job was to oil up the loco ready for her move to the new museum. Then we awaited our turn to be shunted down the line. Lovely Museum thats going to be well worth a visit. Locos on display are Jinty 47383, 7325, Midland Compound 1000, WD 600, 48773, 4930 Hagley Hall, 1501, 80079. Thanks to the lads for an enjoyable day. The Hagley Hall lads, all up early on this wet Sunday morning. Newly repainted 600 (Gordon) looks superb. 73101, with 600 in tow, seen waiting for the road after 42968 has arrived from Bewdley. 4930 is pulled into the daylight once more. The 08 all the convoy into the platform at Kidderminster, where 37906 attached for the run to Highley. Now with 37906 at the front they depart. 80079 at the rear. WSR 88 has arrived ready for the easter weekend. A highly polished footplate, Nice job lads! The convoy seen here at Northwood Lane. The convoy pulls into Arley. Whilst we were at Arley there was time for a quick photo call. As it will be some years before we get the chance to see her in the daylight again. The loco looked superb, kept in perfect condition. Another proud team shot. On arrival at Highley, now just having to wait our turn to be shunted in the museum. An empty engine house, a sight we won't see again for a long time to come. After being split for display, 7325 is shunted in. I remember many great rides behind this loco in the 90's. The info board inside the Egine House for Hagley Hall. The new building at Highley. 600 stands at Highley. The NRM's Compound 1000 stands for photos at Highley. A rare chance to photo the loco out of a museum!! 1501 awaiting her turn. After work I drove to Minehead ready to spend Friday at the Gala. There was just enough time to get a few shots on shed before it was time for the pub. Up early on Friday to get some shed shots whilst the loco prep was being done. Then it was off lineside for the day. A great gala with mainly Great Western freight locos attending. 1450, 3802, 3850, 4160 5542, 5553, 5224, 5619, 9351, 45110 & 49395. Plenty to see. With the others off I took the chance to get back between the frames as I've now got the inside motion to repaint. Nick on the other hand was busy making brackets and mounting the last of the oil pots. Another job knocked off the list. Plus Nick had also been busy finishing the rod for the exhaust injector, so this was something else we were able to out on the loco today. The works was very busy all day with the 4079, 1014 & 3650 groups all hard at work. Plus today was the last mainline trip for 4965 Rood Ashton Hall and she was running from Birmingham to Didcot & return. Whilst she was on site we took the chance to have a three Hall line up. Saturday 15 March 2008: Nick and myself headed to Didcot to do a little work on the King. 3650 now with the tanks refitted,seen here being shunted back into the works. Work on the Kings boiler, one of the jobs we need to do was to fix some small cracks that were in the back head. Another slot will be cut out of the other side aswell. Work is coming along really well. Rood Ashton Hall, Hinderton Hall, Burton Agnes Hall. A great line up, 4965, 5900 & 6998. I think this is the first time we have ever had a 49, 59,69 lined up. 4965 being turned. Having the Hall visit on her railtour brings in the crowds. The rod for the exhaust injector now in place. An evening shot in the works. The last of the oil pots mounted, this might not look much to most of you, however the brackets have to be made, drilled, mounted, painted. This all takes time. This is a shot of the piece that was cut out of the boiler showing the small crack that was found. A shot after a start on repainting the inside motion. Big ends started at last! 9600 with the boiler being retubed, they plan to return her to steam this year. The fittings back in place in 5029 Nunney castle cab. Work going on inside the smokebox. Also the air pump is now refitted again. She entering the final stages of her overhaul. 9466 at rest in the works. 4110 had been shunted across the yard. This shunt was to make room for other boileres which were due to arrive soon.

Whilst at Didcot I did more painting work on the King. Mainly working inside the Cab. Thursday 28 February 2008: Today some of the group made a trip to Birmingham. The superheater header they took to Birmingham. The lads had taken off site on the 9th Feb. ...all sorts of goodies! Aswell as picking up the Exhaust injector there was also a lot of Steam Railmotor parts to bring. Here many parts are on the trolley along with the chimney. The reverser screw covers after the first coat of gloss. The outside cover for the reverser. With the back head cladding still on the drivers side. I've started on the firemen's side. I plan to get the inside of the cab finished soon, that way things can be fitted for the last time. Aswell as glossing the cab/reverser I got another undercoat on the splashers, so they are ready for blue gloss soon. The Exhaust injector. Refitting the injector will be one of our major jobs at the next work party. ...yet more parts being got ready.

Also brackets for the TPWS boxes all need painting. Getting all the parts upto a gloss finish, that way they are ready to be fitted soon. The last job on Saturday had been for me to undercoat the inside of the cab again. In a better looking undercoat this time..! Yet another part of the puzzle painted. Aswell as all the bits and pieces of the project that need sorting. There is the main locomotive itself. To paint things like the cab, which I have here, you need the workshops to yourself or else people are a round creating dust.

The new control box, it looks superb. Another view of the complex box for the TPWS. 4866 was out on display by the turntable for a short period. 3650, now with most of the boiler cladding done, was shunted from the works to the shed. This was so that the group could steam test her to chack for leaks before they refit the side tanks and finish the loco. 3650 being turned. 3650 & 4866, later this year they will no doubt be side by side in the shed. When the Panniers are at this stage, it is easy to see their 'Dean goods' cousins. 3650 stands on the turntable sturs. Not long now before she'll return to steam. Also it won't be long before we start to see 3650 being painted blue. As she will be returned to steam in Stephenson Clarke blue for a limited period. Martin and Pete.T at work. Also after we had trial fitted the vacuum cylinder under the cab floor,it was time to paint it up so it can also be fitted for the last time soon. Mike adding little to the inside valve covers. The lowered safety valves which had been delivered two weeks ago.

As I walked down the path it was nice to be greeted with the sight of 3822 and 1363. Running plate nearly ready. As well as lots of undercoating, on Thursday I did get another coat of the Blue gloss on the reversing lever. The oil pots now rubbed down smooth and undercoat applied.

To do a lot of the painting jobs needed on the loco it is better to go in the week. This way I have the loco to myself and don't have to worry about working a round people. The only other person in the works was Pete.G, who is working on the Kings boiler. He was busy drilling out stays. We are getting to the point in the project now, where a lot of parts from the King are going back on for the last time (we hope). Thursday 21 February 2008: Today I spent the day working on the King. The only other person in the works was Pete.G, who is working on the Kings boiler. He was busy drilling out stays. We are getting to the point in the project now, where a lot of parts from the King are going back on for the last time (we hope).

Last working party Pete.T had welded the Mechanical lubricator plate to the running plate, so now it needs painting up so that the lubricator can be fitted for the final time. Also whilst on site little jobs like cutting in the saddle paint work was done. Now Pete.T has finish piping up the oil pots it's back to me to get a nice finish on them. Getting the lubrication pot for the vac pump ready as it will also be fitted soon. With the drains rod all fitted a few weeks ago, It was now time to start painting it up. ...now I knew this would get the lads asking questions on Saturday...!!! The light green on the left was the only undercoat I could find that the time. And wanting to build up the layers it was better then nothing. With 1363 now out of the works we have alittle more room to work. Our info board kept upto date with progress on he King. Pete.G has now moved round to the drivers side. With approx 1250 stays change. These all need drilling out, the hole enlarging, the hole taping and then fit the new stays.

I couldn't stay in bed whilst the sun was coming up, after going to bed at 00.00, I was back with camera in hand at 07.00. 7909 (6998) Waiting for the morning sun. The sun rises on the visiting locos... 3738 under the coaling stage. 6697 in BR on a frosty morning. Superb great western coaling stage. What a view, A Western shed with coaling stage. This is something you can only get at Didcot. 1363 before we shunted her round to the shed. I'm so glad we got the chance to see 1363 in BR black, after seeing so many photos of them in the 1950's, it's great to see one return. 6106 in the morning sun. 1363 back on shed, photo taken from the demo line. 1363 was left outside on Rd.2 for the public to see her in the new livery. The Castle now back as Earl Bathurst. Details of 1363. A last treat for the weekend was to see my 'Cornish Rivera' headboard on 6024 whilst she is on site. After the days events, a full house again with 1363 returned to the shed.

Earl Bathurst was running as 5058 Earl of Clancarty & Burton Agnes Hall was running as 7909 Heveningham Hall just for the evening, thanks to Karl. It was a great night, the weather couldn't of been better and everyone had an enjoyable evening, here's to the next one!! The lads were hard at work all day, first the Safety valves had been collected from the SVR after having being lowered. They have been lowered ready for Mainline use. Talking off Mainline, the new lowered Single chimney had to taken off site so that it can be machined. Last but now least... the superheater header was also taken off site for machining. All of the above items are very heavy and without road access to the Centre man power is the only way of moving them off site. Many other jobs were being carried out, lagging of the outside cylinders for one. Another great bit of new is that Pete has also started to drill out the stays on the boiler...! But also it was the day of Mine and Martin Creese's evening shoot which was being held at Didcot Railway Centre. Therefore I spent most of the day on the shunter positioning locos ready for the shoot. We had planned to recreate scenes from Laira shed in the 1950's. This was also the main reason that over the last few weeks 1363 has been in the works being repainted into BR black. Today was the first time 1363 was to head out into the sunshine in her new livery.... great sight to see!! Saturday 9 February 2008: A very busy day, it was the King working party today. 6998 before the movements started. Behind you can see 6024 now renumbered as 6023 for the weekend. Taking 6697 for turning, while passing 5900. 6697 being turned... With BR crests for the evening. 5900 Hinderton Hall now in position. 4144 & 6106 ready on the turntable spurs. 5900. Now with the number fitted on the smokebox door, 1363 is ready to head out for display... ...and outside for the waiting public. Really looks stunning. Karl Buckingham can be seen changing the nameplates on the Castle. A big thanks to Karl and all the Crews for their help over the weekend!! 1363 & Castle on display The shed scene is set. 1363, 5051, 6998 & 3822 now in place. Now the aim is to raise the money to put 1363 through an overhaul. It great to see the 13 on shed in BR black, just how she would of been in the 1950's day after day. The Hall now turned ready for the night. The Castle renumbered and with my headboard in place.. the perfect Laira scene.

Also repaint the handrails and add another coat of varnish on the transfers. Now she is already for the nightshoot, a part from attaching the number to the smokebox door. 1363 looking great in BR black. Just the last touches. Putting the last coat on the smoke door hinges. I just repainted the rear of the cab. The lights pick up all the little bits. 1363 LA from her days at Laira...!!

Also in the works the two Castle's were both being worked on, with 5029 coming to the end of her overhaul and 5043 coming to the end of a long and in depth restoration. We are working on the running plate, final fitting of the lubricator ready for the pipe work. On the footplate we are working on the control boxes for the TPWS. Repositioning the control box. Paul at work... Plate for the lubricator. Some alterations on the TPWS control box.

]]> Sat Jan 26 2008 Didcot 1363 work party http://philneale6023.fotopic.net/c1446024.html Today we came to a good part of the 1363 repaint, it was time to fit the transfers on the tanks. Geoff had come down to help put the Early British Railway crests on. Thanks to Martin we had pletty of old photos from the 50's to hand so that we could locate the position of the crests on each tank. The afternoon was spent painting the cabsides and handrails. With most of the painting now done she is really starting to look the part. Only a couple of little bits and the inside of the cab to do. 6024 now inside the shed, under cover so the lads can start work on her. 48518's boiler had arrived on site. This is to be the boiler for the County project. Myself taking a lesson from Geoff on doing the transfers on 1363. With both crests applied she really looks the part!!!

Different look to the King nameplate with the morning sun. Another golden sunrise. Boiler wash outs were also being do on 1338, 1340 and 5051. Mike and I were looking under the tender for things on 6024. Acouple of shots of 1363 with the shutter door open, this allowed me to get a coat of gloss on the smokebox door hinges, etc. A look at Mikes handy work. Now in Black and looking good. The 6024 lads were at work cleaning the smokebox, ashpan etc. The Pendennis Castle group took of the big lamp bracket that had been put on her in Oz... Looks so much better now!! Whilst Pete wasn't doing the pipe work the week before, I was able to get coat of black on the oil pots.

]]> Sat Jan 12 2008 Matt Fielding 45110 Charter http://philneale6023.fotopic.net/c1440934.html With 45110 boiler ticket due to end in January, Matt took the chance to arrange a charter with the Black5 and 5 maroon coaches as a farewell. The charter was very well supported, however the one thing we couldn't plan, the weather was against us...!! A wet but very enjoyable day was had, with those of us who stayed on into the evening getting some nice shots at Bewdley station. The first run passed was at Northwood lane. With the crews and loco putting on a superb show. With very wet rails the loco finds her feet. Departures from Bewdley. A Grey day, it was better for shooting in B&W. An arty shot just outside Bewdley. With the rain really starting to come down, it became the time to be taking video and not stills. The soundtrack of the Black5 working when she passed was fantastic. A head on view, making use of the lamp bracket on the smokebox door for a change. Will the rain not showing signals of stopping, we settled for a couple of shots with the Black5 under the station lights.

Greeted by 6024 on the ash pit road at Didcot. lovely golden sunrise. Later 6024 was moved onto shed, ready for her boiler wash out next week. Where I spent the morning painting the back of the cab and a round the bunker. The afternoon spent getting another coat on the tanks. 3738 looking out on the King. 1363 now in black and looking great....!! Graham has been busy.

Some days you can spend the afternoon just cutting, drilling, bending four brackets. 1363's repainting is coming along well. A shot of 3650 which is progressing well in the works. 1363's repaint is coming along well in readiness for our night shoot. The Christmas fund draw was made next to the King by the chairman. All funds rised are going towards the Steam Railmotor project. Drilling the little pipe brackets. Also another locomtive getting ever closer to steaming out of the works is 5322, seen here in the lifting shop. After another days work the other side is complete. Close up of Petes handy work. This is little branch line is great for charters, it has got a perfect atmosphere of what a little line going through the countryside would of been like in the 50's! Today we had Pannier tank 9682, running as 9789 and with the edition of British Railways on the tanks, running on a little P.way freight. Afterwards a nightshoot was held at Chinnor. 9682 renumbered as 9789 for one weekend only. Cold morning shunt. Passing Wainhill crossing on the way to Thame Jct. At Thame Jct. Ready to shunt the train. The branch line traveling through the countryside. I love the old crossing gates. It's great to see a Pannier back in this livery for a change. Climbing away from Thame Jct. Heading away from the crossing. Looking a head... Timeless.... Panning shot of 9789. Back at Chinnor station for dinner. This is the first time since the 1950's we've seen a Pannier with British Railway written on the tanks. Driver and look out putting the world to rights. The gang at work at Thame Jct. The look out and driver chat. The station at Chinnor is great for doing little nightshoots. Just like stepping back into the 50's.
